Beyond that, it has some minor improvements in formatting such as the ability to add images and grouping various stories into a collection. Wattpad

Wattpad is a controversioal choice in the fanfiction community, it is nonetheless a good choice for those starved for content. Wattpad has one of the bigger libraries among this list and similarly to AO3, has an improved format compared to Fanfiction.net, with the ability to insert images in the pages. Additionally, Wattpad also has original works from it's users with entirely unique settings, stories, and characters. Unfortunately, the quality of the content found here is noticably unpolished compared to most pf the other sites, with poorer grammar, spelling, and story being rather common. Still, should the reader be able to get past that, they will find a massive horde of stories waiting to be found.

Pros

  • Massive library

  • Enhanced format

  • Original works

Cons

  • Lower quality of writing

Spacebattles

SpaceBattles is a unique choice. It's not truly a dedicated fanfiction hub, but rather a discussion forum. Noneheless, it has a great library of fanfics under the category of creative writing, and due to the nature of the site, it has a noticably higher level of quality compared to the previous sites. Alongside that, it has the best formatting here, with images, gifs, videos, and links able to be embedded in the stories directly. Additionally, due to being a forum site, readers can directly comment on a story's page, allowing ffor direct interaction with not just the writer, but also other readers, as well as vote in polls held by the writer which can impact the story. Furthermore, each chapter can be separated into different categories, from official threadmarks and helpful informationals, to visuals focused media and extra material. On top of that, a uniqe form of fanfiction can be found, called quests. These quests rely on the voting function as well as dice rolls to create unique stories that heavily involve the readers and the choices they make. Finally, like Wattpad, you can also find original works here, though not to the same amount as in Wattpad. Unfortunately, unlike the previous sites, SpaceBattles is stricter on the kind of content allowed on it, with those considered "NSFW" being forbidden and could lead to the writer being banned on the site. What is considered "NSFW" are mainly sexual content and excessive violence. And lastly, many of the functions listed here does require a registered account to be used, though lickily it's not needed to read the stories themselves.

Pros

  • Great format

  • Higher standards of quality

  • Unique quests

  • Great interactivity

Cons

  • Many functions require registration

  • No mature content

Alternatehistory is yet another forum site similar to the previous ones. What makes it different is its focus on its namasake, alternate histories. Here you will find many stories that ask the question of what will change if the past, the history of a setting was slightly or very different, with the majority being real-life history but many are fictional histories of fictional settings.
